Seventeen Piedmont Middle School and Piedmont High School students were injured after their bus veered into oncoming lanes when the driver overcorrected to avoid hitting the right shoulder, Fox 46 reports. The bus struck a minivan, severely injuring its driver.
Later that same day, an unrelated school bus crash in the same county left two drivers pinned in their vehicles.
On Jan. 6 in Rochester, N.Y., eight children and one adult bus monitor were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with broken bones after their bus swiped a second bus traveling north and struck a tree. The driver of the bus, Edwin Rivera Dejesus, 30, of Monroe School Transportation was killed, the Democrat & Chronicle reports.
Police indicated that Dejesus might have suffered a heart attack behind the wheel, but bus company officials said he had a clean bill of health.
