MEDFORD, Ore. — A school bus driver from First Student School Bus Transportation Services has been suspended for refusing to remove a Confederate flag from his personal vehicle. The flag violates a Phoenix-Talent School District policy where the driver is a contractor.
Ken Webber began displaying the flag in the bed of his pickup truck over a year and a half ago, AZcentral.com reports. Webber refused to remove the flag after he was asked to do so by school officials because he believes it is a violation of his free speech.
Webber plans to hire an attorney to fight the suspension.
