Bus Driver Arrested for DUI While Driving Students to a Game

HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. – A school bus driver has been suspended after he was arrested on the job for drunk driving.

The driver, Juan Garcia, 51, was driving freshman and sophomore girls from Highland Park High School to a basketball tournament when police pulled him over. There were 19 students on the bus.

According to police, Garcia’s blood-alcohol level was more than double the legal limit.

Parents following the bus were nervous when they saw Garcia swerving and striking a curb. Parents made contact with the basketball trainer, also on the bus, who then called the authorities.

Police found a plastic water bottle filled with alcohol. Another driver was called to transport the students to their game.

A fourth-year driver in the school district, Garcia was released on a $20,000 bond.
