Bronx Mother Sues School for Gang-Related Shooting

BRONX, N.Y.
Published: June 14, 2009

The mother of a male student shot at a Bronx public school is suing New York City, the NYC Board of Education, the NYC Department of Education (DOE) and Archimedes Academy for punitive damages, reports Courthouse News Service.

According to the plaintiff, gang members shot and robbed her son inside the school. She says the district did not take preventive measures to stop the gang members from entering the school with firearms and are therefore liable.

The victim received permanent injuries from the shooting and was forced to transfer schools.
