A teacher is facing charges that he allegedly indecently assaulted an 8-year-old child at the Boston Medical Center over the weekend.
Juan P. Cortes, 25, was arraigned on one count of indecent assault and battery on a child in Boston Municipal Court Monday. His bail was set at $500 cash and he was ordered to wear a GPS monitor, abide by a curfew and stay away from children under the age of 16, according to the Boston Herald.
Cortes was also placed on administrative leave from his position as a third and fourth grade teacher at the Mission Hill K-8 School, Monday. Details about the child and Cortes’ relationship weren’t released to protect the victim’s privacy, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.
At about 6 p.m. Sunday, law enforcement officials responded to a call for a sexual assault at BMC, where they spoke to witnesses, including hospital officials who had viewed surveillance footage of the area where the alleged assault took place, and subsequently arrested Cortes, according to Conley’s office. Police immediately notified Boston school officials, according to authorities.
