SUDBURY, Ontario, Canada – After receiving a written bomb threat, Sudbury Regional Hospital has increased their security, officials announced Nov. 26.
Security guards will greet visitors with a written script explaining that the hospital received a bomb threat and the security has been heightened. Emergency plans have been discussed with police, and regular checks around hospital areas have been implemented.
Joe Pilon, the hospital’s senior vice-president, said the bomb threat was low-risk; however, hospital patients, physicians, employees and volunteers were all informed of the situation. Pilon adds that the hospital will continue to conduct business as usual; however, if a patient wants to reschedule any appointments made prior to the bomb threat, they are able to do so.
This is not the first time the hospital received a bomb threat although it is the first time the hospital decided to go public with the information.
In 2007, Sudbury Regional Hospital also faced a fire June 6 and an infant abduction Nov. 1.
