Body Found in Hospital Stairwell Believed to Be Missing Patient

Published: October 8, 2013

SAN FRANCISCO — A woman found dead Tuesday in a stairwell at San Francisco General Hospital is believed to be a patient who had been missing for two weeks.

Lynne Spalding, 57, checked herself into the medical facility for a bladder infection. On Sept. 21, nurses who were checking on her every 15 minutes discovered she was missing around 10:30 a.m., CNN reports.

Assuming that hospital thoroughly searched the facility for the missing woman, Spalding’s family launched a “Find Lynne” Facebook page in hopes of finding her, and frantically searched for the patient throughout the city. However, officials discovered Spalding’s body in an exterior stairwell rarely used by hospital employees.

Hospital personnel are unclear how Spalding’s body ended up in the staircase. Police are investigating the incident.
