TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida A&M’s board of trustees rejected the governor’s call to suspend the university president during an investigation into the hazing death of a student band member.
Last week, the state medical examiner ruled that Robert Champion’s death on Nov. 19 was a homicide, USA Today reports. Officials said he was beaten so severely that he bled internally and went into shock.
The board has publicly reprimanded university President James Ammons and placed band director Julian White on leave.
