Background Checks on Ohio School Guards Uncover Arrests, Convictions

Published: August 30, 2006

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Eight security officers at Sandusky schools have been fired after their background checks revealed prior convictions and arrests, some for robbery and sexual assault.

The guards, who were hired by a private company, were supposed to provide protection during a teachers strike. The checks were done, however, after a parent complained about one of the officers.

Substitutes and new officers have been hired to keep the northern Ohio schools open.
