MOSS was founded by Lori Alhadeff in memory of her daughter Alyssa, who lost her life in the 2018 school shooting in Parkland, Fla., at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. The organization is “dedicated to implementing proactive safety measures in schools nationwide,” according to the announcement.

The organization “played a key role in the creation of Alyssa’s Law, which mandates the installation of silent panic alarms to enhance emergency response during school incidents,” the announcement says.
