The Brookhaven Police Department in Georgia is asking residents and businesses to provide the department with access to footage captured on their video surveillance cameras.
Fox 5 Atlanta reports that the program, called “Operation Plugged In,” would launch in one month. The department would log in to the cameras and pull video in the event of a crime that has taken place in that area.
Chief Gary Yandura says it would reduce crime at no added cost to the city.
The program would allow the department to “be able to go to a map, actually pinpoint locations where cameras are at and save a whole bunch of time as far as investigating and coming out with video footage that will help us out in investigations,” Yandura says.

Some residents are on board, while others would prefer more police officers. Yandura says he wishes he could have more officers, but since the budget doesn’t allow for it, “Operation Plugged In” is their best option.
“We require the people to be the eyes and ears of the police department and that is what we are hoping for,” Yandura says.
