Anthrax Hoax Puts Florida Hospital on Lockdown

SEBRING, Fla.
Published: April 6, 2009

An initial Anthrax scare at a Florida hospital proved to be just a false alarm after tests confirmed a suspicious white power was not the deadly substance.

On April 2, more than 75 envelopes containing a white power were found on cars parked at the Florida Hospital Heartland Division in Sebring, Fla. Officials tested 30 of the envelopes for Anthrax – all tests came back negative, according to TheLedger.com.

The hospital went into immediate lockdown after a hospital employee discovered the first envelope. No one who came in contact with the white substance developed any symptoms. Authorities still have not determined the origin of the envelopes or the messenger’s intent. The FBI is investigating the incident as a hoax.
