Several hospitals across Alabama have put an end to a longtime tradition of announcing the names of the first babies born on January 1.
The changes are the result of security concerns. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children recently released statistics showing that infant abductions from medical facilities happen with more frequency during the holiday season, WHNT News reports.
Jackson Hospital and Baptist Health are among the facilities to cease allowing media interviews with the parents of New Year’s Day newborns or showing photos of the infants.
