Alabama School Introduces New Visitor Check System

Published: June 30, 2008

FORT PAYNE, Ala. – Fort Payne Middle School will soon implement a new computerized visitor check system that will tell authorities whether a visitor is a sex offender or has a history of violence. The new security measure is courtesy of a $5,000 grant through the School Resource Officer Program.

The new system is connected to the National Database to check for criminal backgrounds. If the system reflects that a sex offender, or any other criminal, has entered the premises, the principal will be immediately alerted.

The school plans to implement the new system by the fall semester. The new security upgrade is one of many the school plans to deploy throughout the school year.
