Superintendent Bars Al Jazeera Reporter from Football Game

BOOKER, Texas – A correspondent for Al Jazeera was barred from filming at a high school football game and interviewing students and parents about the effects of 9/11 on American life.

Gabriel Elizondo was asked to leave the game after he revealed himself to be a correspondent for Al Jazeera to Booker High’s principal, according to a post on Elizondo’s blog, The Upshot reports.  Superintendent Michael Lee, who denied Elizondo permission to film, later apologized on the high school’s Web site.

However, Lee disputed Elizondo’s account of the incident in his response. He claimed he did not use profanity when speaking with Elizondo, as was indicated in the blog post.

Lee also indicateed he was concerned about violating students’ FERPA rights if he had allowed Elizondo to interview individuals at the game.
