Six people were charged after two University of Rochester students were abducted Dec. 5 and rescued a day later.
Rochester police have charged Lydell Strickland, 26, Dennis Perez, 23, Leah Gigliotti, 20 and Samantha Hughes, 19, with first degree kidnapping. Inalia Rolldan, 19, and Ruth Lora, 19, were charged with second degree kidnapping.
The charges are related to the abduction of two football players at the New York school on Saturday night. Police say students Nicholas Kollias and Ani Okeke Ewo, both of Illinois, were “forcibly abducted” somewhere near the university campus.
The students were reported missing immediately, and police recovered the vehicle the two were driving Dec. 6. Later that evening a SWAT team rescued the students from a home four miles from campus, according to foxsports.com.
One of the students suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, but police declined to give any other details on injuries the students may have sustained.
Police believe the two students, both seniors, were targeted. No motive has been released for the abduction, but University of Rochester President Joel Seligman said in a statement that he would be able to provide more details in the near future.
