500 L.A. High School Students March Against Immigration Bill

SOUTH GATE, Calif. – Approximately 500 students from Huntington Park High School left their classrooms March 24 to protest an immigration bill that goes before Congress on March 27.

The protest began at 8 a.m. when about 150 students walked off campus. Because they entered other schools in the area, the Los Angeles Unified School District locked down South Gate High and Bell High.

The bill being protested calls for the building of additional walls along the U.S.-Mexico border. It would also make helping illegal immigrants a criminal offense. A larger rally involving immigrants-rights groups will be held in Los Angeles on March 25.
