OXFORD, Miss. – Forty-eight alcohol-related arrests were made Nov. 2 and 3 at the University of Mississippi in a crackdown on underage drinking.
The move came just days after school officials announced that students convicted of two drug or alcohol abuse violations will automatically be suspended. Violations covered by the policy include drunk driving, public drunkenness, possession of alcohol by a minor and drug infractions.
The Mississippi Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) Bureau conducted the operation at the request of Ole Miss’ police department and local law enforcement. Most of the arrests were made off campus, during traffic stops.
Of the four-dozen arrests, the vast majority – 43 – involved minors for possession of alcohol. Disorderly conduct and possession of fake identification were other charges.
