COLUMBIA, S.C. — The University of South Carolina (USC) has begun notifying the 34,000 people possibly affected by a computer intrusion discovered three months ago.
It is unclear when the breach, which emanated from overseas, occurred, the Daily Wildcat reports. Officials have found no evidence that the hackers accessed or used any information on the computer server.
The breach is the largest reported by USC since 2006. Nearly 81,000 records belonging to university students and employees have been exposed during the past six years.
