PHILADELPHIA — Three people were hurt in a drive-by shooting early Thursday outside the Temple University Hospital emergency department.

Around 12:30 a.m. on the 3400 block of Germantown Avenue, video surveillance shows three shooters jump out of a car and open fire outside the back entrance of the ER, reports ABC 6. An 18-year-old man was shot in the hand, a 24-year-old man was shot in the knee, and a 25-year-old man was shot in his arm and shoulder. All three victims are stable and were able to walk themselves into the hospital for treatment.

Philadelphia police taped off the scene and the hospital used an alternative entrance and exit for emergency room patients. More than 40 spent shell casings were recovered by police and bullet holes were visible on the side of the building.

“Temple Hospital, the actual building, and the entranceway to the emergency room were struck multiple times by gunfire,” said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small. “A door was hit several times, a piece of glass that leads to the walkway to the emergency room was also struck by gunfire, and several other bullets did strike Temple Hospital property.”

Small called the location of the shooting “very unusual” since there is a high amount of traffic in the area. Ambulances are often discharged near the entrance and there is frequent police activity, he added.

Investigators said the shooters used semi-automatic guns and were driving a black or blue Dodge Charger with tinted windows. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the hospital and police cameras. No motive has been determined.

Anyone who has information on the shooting should contact Philadelphia Police at 215-686-8477.
