The University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus is now open after a package made to look like a bomb was discovered by police. On Wednesday, classes were cancelled and campus housing, nearby residences and businesses had been evacuated.
The device was found after a bomb threat was called into a local TV station at 5:30 a.m. The male caller uttered expletives, saying that there were two devices. One would be found at Girard Park, while the other one “would have to be found,” reports KATC.
Louisiana State Police report that the bomb squad disarmed the first device, which was found in a garbage can. It was initially reported that a second device was found in the parking lot, but according to the Advocate, only one was discovered. Nine teams swept the campus and cleared the buildings, reports the Advertiser. The FBI, ATF and ICE all participated in the investigation.
About 100 students who were evacuated from campus passed the time by watching movies at City Hall.
