STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Twenty-nine past chairs of Penn State’s faculty senate have signed a statement condemning the report and sanctions resulting from the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal. The statement was posted online Tuesday.
The signers of the document claim former FBI director Louis Freeh’s report on the abuse and the NCAA’s ensuing $60 million in fines unfairly punish the entire university community, the Associated Press reports. Freeh’s report concluded that university officials concealed information about the sexual abuse allegations against Sandusky.
Freeh said Tuesday that his report wasn’t compromised by his inability to interview key witnesses.
