26 D.C. Charter Schools Receive Resource Officers
WASHINGTON
As part of a new resource deployment plan set by Washington, D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and Police Chief Cathy Lanier, D.C. Charter Schools will be ramping up its school safety measures, including the addition of school resource officers.
A string of after school fights has prompted parents to demand charter schools receive the same protection as D.C. public schools. In response, active D.C. police officers will conduct on-site patrols of 26 charter schools, reports news8.net.
The new resource deployment plan will be initiated in two phases. First, officers will be assigned to 60 public and charter schools. For the second phase of the plan, roving officers will visit several schools at least once a day.
According to Police Chief Lanier, the resource plan is budget-friendly.
