A floor stripping machine sparked a fire on the campus of Georgetown University, which severely burned two people.
The fire started around 3 a.m. April 15, after two maintenance workers were using a floor stripping machine on the second floor of the New North building, according to wjla.com. The workers were said to be in critical condition when they arrived at the MedStar Burn Center.
Authorities said the fire was contained by a sprinkler system and did not spread to other rooms. The first and second floors of the building were flooded.
The two workers are now in stable conditions, Georgetown Senior Vice President Spiros Dimolitsas wrote in an E-mail to students. Additionally, two officers who suffered smoke inhalation have been treated and released.
