A man committed to a Berks County hospital for a mental evaluation is now in jail after he repeatedly made threats against hospital staff and destroyed hospital property.

According to a report by WFMZ.com, police officers responded to a call regarding disorderly conduct in the emergency department at St. Joseph’s Medical Center last week. Upon arrival, Officers found 19-year-old Brian Walter Beyer placed in a restraint. Officials say the teenager was restrained because his behavior was “out of control.”

Court documents state that while restrained, Beyer kicked three security officers in the chest and head-butted a fourth. Beyer also destroyed hospital property by throwing a chair and smashing it on the ground, biting a hole in a hospital room mattress and breaking a security officer’s taser after he kicked the employees holster. The cost of the damage is estimated to be $1,675.

Both police and hospital staff reported hearing Bayer threaten to shoot and stab police. Hospital staff say Bayer also threatened to kill his mother for signing him in for a mental commitment. Bail was set at $100,000.
