17 Men File Sex Abuse Lawsuits Against Fairfield U.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Seventeen Haitian men have filed lawsuits against Fairfield University, the Society of Jesus and others alleging that they failed to protect them from sexual abuse at the hands of a man who founded the school they attended in Haiti.

In total, there are now 21 alleged victims suing Douglas Perlitz, the Associated Press reports. Perlitz was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison in 2010 for sexually abusing boys at Project Pierre Toussaint.

The lawsuits claim Perlitz’s supervisors ignored warning signs of the abuse.
