146K Indiana U Students Are Possible Data Breach Victims

Published: March 3, 2014

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The names, addresses and Social Security numbers for as many as 146,000 Indiana University students and recent graduates may have been exposed during a data breach at the university.

When university officials discovered the breach, they immediately locked down the institution’s database, and moved the information to a secure location the following day, IU Newsroom reports.

IU administrators believe the information was accessed by three automated computer data mining applications, not by an individual seeking specific sensitive data. Still, the university has notified all affected students of the possible data breach.

Additionally, IU will offer credit monitoring to all affected persons.
