When a gunman opened fire in Florida State University’s library on Nov. 20, 2014, the school’s police officers were prepared.
Although the gunman injured three students, things could have been much worse if officers didn’t respond less than two minutes after they received an emergency call. After the gunman refused to put down his .380 semi-automatic handgun, police fatally shot him. Six officers were involved with the shooting and were later commended for their heroic acts.
“If there is any positive news we can take from this occurrence,” said Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum just hours after the shooting. “It is that the victim count was not higher.”
