A hacking group broke into servers at 100 universities worldwide, including Harvard, Stamford, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Michigan, to “focus attention on … failing education standards around the world,” ComputerWorld reports.
The group, called Team GhostShell, accessed and publicly posted roughly 120,000 records from the breach servers, including names, phone numbers, E-mails, login credentials and other data.
In a message posted on Pastebin, a Web site where users can store text online for a set period, Team GhostShell stated that it intentionally leaked minimum information from the hacked servers.
“We tried to keep the leaked information to a minimum, so just around 120,000+ accounts and records are here, leaving in their servers hundreds of thousands more. When we got there, we found out that a lot of them have malware. No surprise there since some have credit card information stored,” the message read.
