1 Male Fatally Shot by Officer In Middle School Parking Lot

SAN ANTONIO, Texas, An 18-year-old boy was shot and killed by a San Antonio Independent School District police officer Nov. 23.

According to a San Antonio Police Department spokesman, two young men were loitering in a car when the passenger exited the vehicle and started looking into some other cars. The campus police officer, Johnny Reyes, saw them tampering with the vehicles.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he drew his weapon and ordered the men to stop. According to the police, however, the driver instead accelerated toward the officer, who fired one round. The car then stopped briefly before accelerating again toward the officer, who fired another two rounds.

The driver, 18-year-old Eric Zapata Colin, was struck and died at the scene. The officer was not injured, and the passenger was taken into custody.
