Chief Marcus Lyles

Congratulations to Howard University Executive Director and Chief of Police Marcus Lyles for being named one of this year’s Higher Education/Healthcare Campus Safety Director of the Year finalists.

Here are some of his notable achievements:

  • Kept department motivated despite the school being targeted with eight bomb threats in 2022.
  • Decreased crime on campus by 30% over the past three years despite the school being located in a high-crime area (the surrounding community experiences eight times the rate of crime compared to the campus).
  • Installed or upgraded more than 600 security cameras, access control, mobile cameras, Peace of Mind devices for every member of the community, a safety app, and mass notification.

Winners of this year’s Director of the Year award will be announced at Campus Safety Conference West, taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada, July 10-12. For more information and to register, visit CampusSafetyConference.com.
