  • Worked with local prosecutors to make them aware of the scope of assaults on healthcare workers
  • All 12,000 system employees will soon be trained on defensive tactics and verbal de-escalation
  • Purchased report writing software, which provided statistics that justified the hiring of more officers and purchase of security technology

Jeff Hauk

Notable Achievements:

  • Established a standalone department of public safety, and reclassified its security guards as public safety officers
  • First U.S. healthcare facility to obtain Suspicious Indicators Recognition Assessment training and certification
  • Improved lighting around campus with the installation of LED lighting, resulting in $10,000 per year cost savings

James Ketsaa

Notable Achievements:

  • Deployment of body-worn cameras to all officers resulted in nearly an 80 percent reduction in legitimate citizen complaints and also holds officers accountable for inappropriate behavior
  • Equipped officers with stun guns
  • Partnered with Las Vegas PBS to create a datacasting system that broadcasts data over a wide area via radio waves. The system can broadcast anything from floor plans to student lists to help onsite officers appropriately respond to incidents.

  • Headed the installation of an integrated system that includes nearly 200 access points, more than 200 cameras, patient abduction prevention, nurse call, intercoms and other security systems
  • Developed good working relationships with local law enforcement in three counties
  • Led initiative to train staff in decontamination, which resulted in improved response by all emergency department nurses and technicians

Notable Achievements:

  • Established the district’s first welcome center that provides customer service to residents, community members and new families who move into the district
  • Partnered with city officials to maximize community use of the district’s facilities and recreational spaces
  • Created and coordinated the district’s emergency procedures and works with local law enforcement

Alan Walters

Georgetown County School District
Georgetown, S.C.

Notable Achievements:

  • Identified areas of improvement in emergency response and hazard mitigation and used that as the basis to rewrite the district’s emergency operations plan
  • In response to Hurricane Matthew arranged for evacuations, shelters and recovery sites at schools to provide food and water for county residents
  • Identified school building design challenges and supervised $1.5 million in renovations at 20 locations. Upgrades included cameras, access control, secured walkways and bullet-resistant doors and glass.
