Although there has been little change in the percentage of women in campus public safety departments over the past three years, 18% of this year’s survey participants were female. That’s five percentage points higher than when CS conducted its previous survey in 2015. Additionally, 4% more respondents who are chiefs of police and security directors are women, for a total of 14%. Female chiefs and directors, however, have a ways to go to bridge the wage gap. The median salary for them is $67,500, compared to $77,500 for male chiefs and directors.
