Homicide Suspect Escapes Hospital Security
GAINESVILLE, Ga.
A vehicular homicide suspect fled a Gainesville hospital after being taken to the facility to be treated for injuries allegedly sustained in the crash.
According to ajc.com, authorities say Dawn Satterfield, 46, was responsible for a crash that killed 58-year-old Guadalupe Hernandez Vasquez on Sept. 5. Satterfield allegedly fled the scene of the accident and returned before asking authorities for an ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Police put the suspect on hold through the hospital’s security, however, she walked out of the hospital before receiving medical treatment. According to the hospital spokeswoman, the hospital’s security guards are private citizens and are unable to detain an individual against his or her will.
The search for Satterfield ended Sept. 8 when she turned herself into the police.
According to accessnorthga.com, she has been charged with escape, two counts of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death or injury, failure to maintain lane and driving under the influence.
