Congratulations to Rich Payne, Safety Director at Academy District 20 (ASD20), for being named one of this year’s K-12 school/district Campus Safety Director of the Year finalists.
Some of his notable achievements include:
- Changed officer uniforms so they wouldn’t be confused with local law enforcement. This helped repair officer relationships with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
- Standardized drills, exercises, and department oversight for consistency among various campuses.
- Created a new security detail for school board meetings during the COVID-19 pandemic to help maintain security when meetings became hostile.
Winners of this year’s Director of the Year award will be announced at this summer’s 2024 Campus Safety Conference, taking place in Atlanta, Georgia, July 8-10. For more information and to register, visit CampusSafetyConference.com.
