Psychiatric Patient Steals Ambulance at Texas Hospital

FORT WORTH, Texas – Police arrested a John Peter Smith Hospital patient after he went joyriding in an ambulance truck.

Charles Jennings, 35, was brought to the hospital’s emergency room on Feb. 25 for a psychiatric evaluation when he decided to leave the facility. While staff members tried to get him in a bed, Jennings jumped off the stretcher, ran out the door and jumped into the ambulance truck, New York Daily News.

Hospital security saw Jennings operating the vehicle and followed the suspect until he stopped the ambulance after four blocks. No one was injured and there was no damage to the vehicle.

The suspect faces second-degree felony theft charges.
