Parolee Assualts Senior Citizen in Hospital Bed

SALINA, Kan.

Police arrested a 46-year-old man with a long criminal history on Feb. 20 for allegedly raping an elderly patient at Salina Regional Health Center.

Paul Henry Parker Jr. entered into the room of a patient, who is in her 90s, around 8 p.m., the Salina Journal reports. A nurse, who was checking on other patients, found Parker in the patient’s room, and she contacted hospital staff. The staff, which included nurses and maintenance workers, forcibly detained the suspect until police arrived at the scene.

Official are unclear why Parker was at the hospital as he wasn’t a patient. Parker had recently been released from a work facility in Hutchinson, Kan., according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.

The hospital is evaluating its security and is considering hiring a security company that specializes in health care facilities to conduct an audit.
