Hacking Group Claims to Have Info of 110,000 Students, Employees
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. — A hacking group called Spex Security posted the information of about 14,500 Clarksville-Montgomery County school district students and employees online Monday. A tech firm analysis of the attack found that nearly 9,000 Social Security numbers were posted.
The full names and student IDs of about 4,000 students were posted, and, of those, 1,300 also had their genders and birth dates exposed, News Channel 5 reports. The district shut down its Web sites and contacted the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Spex Security claimed to have stolen the information of 110,000 people and intends to post more online, ComputerWorld reports. In an online message, a possible member of the group said: “To be clear here, we gave Tennessee a chance to comply and they didn’t, therefore, this is the consequence they’ll have to swallow.”
