Ga. College Fires Coach for Sexual Harassment of Players

A Title IX committee confirmed the coach’s behavior was inappropriate.

The softball coach at Kennesaw State University in Georgia was fired Aug. 3 for making inappropriate comments toward his players.

The announcement came after a university investigation determined that Head Coach Torrence Acheson violated the school’s sexual harassment policy and his termination was effective immediately, reports ajc.com.

“We are extremely disappointed in Coach Acheson’s behavior and apologize to our student-athletes and their parents,” KSU interim president Houston D. Davis says.

The school’s Title IX committee began the investigation following complaints from students. University officials say they will work to improve Title IX compliance as a result of the committee’s findings.

A university statement said administrators will increase Title IX training, adopt new reporting structures for Title IX violations and enhance other Title IX protocols.

Acheson was going into just his second year as head coach, although he had been with the team for four years.
