FBI Report Sees Slight Uptick in Violent Crimes in 2015

In relation to 2014, there were more violent crimes but less property crimes in 2015.

The FBI’s annual crime report showed a 3.9 percent increase in the number of violent crimes that occurred in 2015 compared with the year before.

The estimated figure, while higher than the FBI’s 2014 violent crime approximation, is still lower than the report’s findings in the years before 2012.

Overall, the FBI recorded 1,197,704 violent crimes in 2015, including 90,185 rapes and 15,696 murders.

Guns were used in 71.5 percent of murders, 40.8 percent of robberies and 24.2 percent of aggravated assaults.

There were approximately 327,374 robberies in 2015 accounting for roughly $390 million in losses.

The report also showed a 2.6 percent decline in the number of property crimes committed in 2015, with losses estimated at $14.3 billion.

It is the 13th straight year crime estimates collectively have declined.
