National Protective Systems Inc. (NPSI) manufactures and maintains a personal duress security system for campus environments called Campus Shield. The system is completely customizable, comprised of 11 distinct pieces of equipment and our proprietary software, all designed by NPSI engineers, and built entirely by us in the USA. Systems are installed according to precise coverage requirements of campus officials. The system is activated by a small key fob-like device (PAL) issued to 100% of the campus community, and can locate any individual accurately and reliably anywhere on campus, whether indoors or out, including specific floors and rooms. Once the PAL is pressed a signal is emitted at a specific frequency and instantly picked up by one or more area receivers. These receivers translate that signal into information identifying the PAL holder and location. That information is sent via radio frequency (RF) to a head end computer system installed at the central office of campus security. Here, dispatchers will immediately receive an audible alert and then a split screen display: a map on the right showing the PAL holder’s location; a picture on the left showing the holder as well as information including contact, physical identifiers, and optional medical info.

  1. Accuracy – Designed to locate individuals no matter where they are on campus. This includes indoors or out, a lab located on a subterranean floor, an 8th floor dorm room, or a secluded tree-covered corner of the campus. Line-of-sight and other GPS-based deficiencies have been overcome.
  2. Reliability – We’ve added countless redundancies, from power back-up, to tamper-proof screws, batteries soldered in place, a hot back-up head end computer, and decision making built into the software.
  3. Customization – Our engineers and technicians layout the specific system design your campus requires to assure total coverage, including integration with existing camera systems.

Benefits to the End User:
Prioritizes safety through an investment covering 100% of the campus, 100% of its inhabitants, 100% of the time. This sets the integrator’s brand apart from peer schools or hospitals.
With everyone on campus carrying a PAL, students learn adverse behavior towards peers could be met with silent activation and arrival of security personnel. Getting caught in the act illustrates to outside criminal forces that campus is off limits. A potent prevention tool against sexual assaults and other criminal activity.
Cuts response times and puts more eyes on an incident in real time, thereby reducing incident severity and investigation man-hours.
