Wood County Schools Receive Security Grant From Video Insight

Wood County Schools will use the $20,000 grant from Video Insight to improve video surveillance throughout the district.

PARKERSBURG, W.V. – Video Insight, a developer of enterprise IP video surveillance software, has awarded Wood County Schools a $20,000 grant as part of its School Security In-Kind Grant Program.

As a grant recipient, Wood County Schools will receive Video Insight video management software (VMS) licenses; 16 IP video surveillance cameras; 1 video encoder that includes VMS software licenses; 10 years of software upgrades; one year of a customer assurance program; and product training.

“We’re pleased to award the March Video Insight School Security Grant to Wood County Schools,” Video Insight CEO Robert Shaw said. “The goal of the grant is to help districts like Wood County Schools in need of a comprehensive security solution provide essential protection for students, staff, and district property.”

Wood County Schools has 13,389 students at 28 schools and supports five administration buildings. Twelve of the district’s campuses are designated Title 1 and nearly 50 percent of the student population qualifies for the federal free lunch program.

The district applied for the grant to be proactive in keeping students and community members safe by addressing security needs with the latest technology, Wood County Schools Safety Coordinator Don Brown said.

“Most schools do not have the funds to upgrade their surveillance technology from the systems put in place many years ago where images are only captured on hard drive systems,” he said. “There are various outdated technologies in place throughout the district with no networking capabilities. Video surveillance is a preventative measure that Wood County Schools may utilize to promote student safety, prevent misconduct, and deter theft and vandalism.”

Every month of 2014, Video Insight will award a school or college the equipment necessary to implement a video surveillance solution (software, hardware, and support valued at over $20,000 each).

Wood County Schools joins previous grant winners Harrison School District Two of Colorado (February), and Monroe Public Schools of Michigan (January). Grant winners are notified the last week of each month.
