Univ. of Calif. System Hires First Title IX Coordinator
The new position will help the university system implement new sexual violence policies.
Kathleen Salvaty had been working as Title IX coordinator at UCLA, the system's largest campus.
The University of California announced the hiring of Kathleen Salvaty Thursday to serve as its first system-wide Title IX coordinator.
Salvaty will lead an effort to reduce and respond to sexual violence on the system’s nine campuses.
Reporting directly to President Janet Napolitano, Salvaty will direct the education, prevention, adjudication and sanctioning of sexual violence procedures.
“Hiring Kathleen is a critical next step in making sure our recently overhauled policies to prevent, adjudicate and sanction sexual misconduct at UC are properly, and consistently, carried out,” Napolitano said.

Salvaty is an attorney that previously served as the Title IX coordinator at UCLA. Before that, Salvaty practiced law for more than 15 years in New York City and California, litigating public interest and civil action cases.
Two subjects Salvaty worked on extensively were police reform and public school funding.
Salvaty will officially assume her new role Feb. 6.
