UK Suspends Kappa Alpha Psi for Paddling, Hazing Behavior
Kappa Alpha Psi’s hazing was discovered in March.
The University of Kentucky is home to 52 social and cultural fraternities and sororities.
The University of Kentucky suspended the historically black fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi for six years for paddling pledging students.
The suspension, which was also related to other hazing behaviors, took effect on March 28.
UK acting director of the Office of Student Conduct Dominick Williams initiated the suspension after speaking with Kappa Alpha Psi President Dwayne Sutton.

Sutton has graduated from the University of Kentucky but told kentucky.com that the fraternity would likely return to campus following the suspension.
Disciplinary records show Williams’ reasoning for the suspension.
“Sutton explained that he discovered his chapter was engaging in hazing behavior… new members were made to line up, recite information regarding the fraternity and they were sometimes hit by the actives present and/or paddled,” Williams stated.
This is not the first time UK has had hazing problems. In 2016, the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity was suspended for alcohol hazing and other misconduct behaviors.
Kappa Alpha Psi had only eight members and did not have a fraternity house on campus according to Sutton.
The national chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi did not comment on the suspension.
