Texas District to Install More Than 1,000 Security Cameras

The Ector County Independent School District is planning to spend about $2 million on video surveillance.

ODESSA, Texas – The Ector County Independent School District (ECISD) is planning to spend about $2 million to install 1,068 video surveillance cameras in schools all around the city.

The cameras will be installed in high schools and middle schools, one campus at a time, reportsOA Online.

Additionally, police will be increasing traffic patrols, and the district is looking for a new chief.

Other security measures currently in place include metal detectors, counseling and a text tipping program.

The district might also reintroduce bike patrols to address issues with the local homeless population and to access areas that can’t be reached by traditional patrol vehicles.
