Tacoma Hospital Reviews Policies in Wake of $100K Theft
A contractor with the healthcare provider stole computers and other equipment using a security pass he kept for months after his work with the company ended.
A former employee of Franciscan Health Systems in Tacoma, Wash., has been charged with the theft of $100,000 worth of equipment from three of the health provider’s facilities. The man used the stolen hardware to pay for his pill addiction, according to court documents.
Justin Pace, a former IT contractor for Franciscan Health Systems, took computers, scanners and other equipment using his security pass, which he still had for months after finishing his work for the company, kirotv.com reports.
Police said Pace accessed St. Joseph’s Hospital six times, an administrative office 24 times, and an education and support facility eight times and stole 35 computers and 34 scanners. However, no patient data was compromised, Franciscan officials said.
The healthcare provider is conducting an internal review of its policies and procedures following the breach.
