Sioux City Schools Ink Deal to Install 156 Security Cameras
The Iowa district will be adding and replacing cameras in their buildings.
Eight new cameras are going to be installed at Sioux City’s 17 elementary schools along with updating more than 200 existing cameras in the middle schools, the high schools and other district buildings after the Iowa school district approved an agreement with Midwest Alarm Monday.
“We decided we’re going to really cover key points in the buildings,” says Neil Schroeder, the school district director of technology, reports the Sioux City Journal. “Every building has a front door, an office, a lunch room. Those areas we thought were the same level of concern and commonality.”
There will be an addition of 156 new cameras, while 225 existing outdated cameras will be replaced. The project is expected to be completed by August 2016 at a cost of $454,285. After a drill involving a mock shooter in 2013-14, the schools decided to make the improvement to their security systems.
