Police say the man suspected of fatally shooting a professor on the campus of Delta State University killed himself September 14.

Shannon Lamb, who worked with the victim as a member of the university’s faculty, reportedly died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound as police attempted to apprehend him, according to USA Today.

Lamb, 45, is also suspected in the death of Amy Prentiss, who he lived with in Gautier, Mississippi.

The Delta State University president announced that the lockdown was over at 12:15 a.m. September 15 following a day that saw the school accepting food and water donations as it kept students in campus buildings for hours.

Professor Ethan Schmidt was fatally shot in his office on campus early in the morning of September 14, sparking a lockdown and a manhunt that lasted over 12 hours.

University officials instructed students through twitter at 8:44 a.m. Monday to “take immediate lockdown action” and stay away from the windows as police continued their investigation. The identity of the suspect was not released, although police eventually gave a brief description of the vehicle they thought he was driving.

The school also tweeted that counselors will be available and there will be a candle light vigil held on campus.
