Mother Flees Community Hospital of Anaconda With Newborn
The hospital was forced to revise its security policies after the woman illegally left hospital premises with the infant.
ANACONDA, Mont. – The Community Hospital of Anaconda has revised its security policy after a mother illegally fled the medical center with her newborn.
Michelle Renee Yallup, 29, was already in labor when she arrived at the hospital on June 17. Hours after giving birth, the new mother, who tested positive for methamphetamine, walked down a hallway and fled the hospitals from an exit outside the restricted are where mothers are allowed to walk their babies, The Montana Standard reports.
Hospital officials declined discussing specifics of the new protocol, but said they brought in an outside consultant to revamp security policies and procedures.
Police finally caught up to Yallup on July 21. She, along with her one-month-old baby, was found in Utah. The infant is currently being looked at by the Utah Department of Family Services.
Yallup faces a slew of charges in Anaconda including child endangerment and felony forgery for checking into the hospital under her sister’s name. She also is accused of skipping out on a $13,338.92 bill.
She also faces charges in Utah, including being a fugitive from justice, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and child abuse.
