Massachusetts School District Dealing with Bomb Threats

Palmer Public Schools in Massachusetts has discovered 13 bomb threats since April, most of which have forced evacuations and disrupted classes in the name of school security.

A Massachusetts middle school has dealt with bomb threats on three consecutive mornings as part of a string of threats that has disrupted several schools in the district.

Palmer Public Schools has found 13 bomb threats since April. All threats have proved false and almost every one has forced an evacuation, according to masslive.com.

The threat found early on May 20 at Converse Middle School followed a threat the day before when a scrap of paper was discovered with the word ‘bomb’ on it in a trash can and the day before that, when a clipboard was found with the word ‘bomb’ written on it. All three threats are under investigation by the Palmer police but no one has been charged.

Other threats have caused evacuations at Pathfinder Regional High School and Palmer High School. Most threats have been discovered on the walls of boys’ bathrooms, which are now monitored by teachers.

The Palmer school committee is considering changing the current bomb threat policy, which requires schools to be evacuated after any bomb threat, so police can keep the schools open if they decide a threat is not credible.
